Adele is a little nervous. Today is a special day—she had signed up for the school's parent-and-child activity, 'Pet Relay'. Last night, the Little Black Sheep listened to the plan she had drafted together with her parents, three times. Her parents had taken the day off—they're always so busy, so she has to do well this time! A first place would be even better! After introducing herself and the Little Black Sheep to the judge, Adele nods to her parents to begin. They are dressed as they always are, not a crease to be found on their clothes, their glasses seated firmly on their noses, but Adele knows that Mutti had worn her shoes on the wrong foot and Vati's buttons were all done wrong as they were about to leave home. Were they nervous too? As the whistle is blown, Adele stands at the designated location of the first section, guiding the Little Black Sheep through the jumping hoop, round the corner, and onto the balance board. Oh, it slipped! No worries, just a little mistake. What's really important is the end... the end... what was the trick to be performed at the end of the section? She couldn't remember! Adele stops in a panic, and the Little Black Sheep starts running amok, seeing that its conductor had stopped moving, knocking over her mother who was standing at the beginning of the second section, then her father who came to help her. Oh no, the race is ruined! What to do? Adele is at a loss. 'Haha!' Somebody in the stands cannot hold back a laugh. Vati finally picks himself up. Seeing a helpless Adele and Little Black Sheep running amok on the course, he decides to try again. He turns his necktie, knocked loose by the Little Black Sheep, into an impromptu conducting baton, guiding it back to the course while looking nothing like the academic who spends most of his time in the library and lab. Mutti tries and fails to find her fallen glasses, but laughs as though she found an extremely rare mineral sample when she sees Vati hard at work and the Little Black Sheep back on track through her blurry vision. She stands up, lifts up the edges of her dress, and squints as she tries to make it to the finish line without stumbling over anything. 'Adele!' She opens her arms and calls to her daughter, who was on the verge of tears. 'Come here!' Adele hesitates for a moment. She looks at Mutti and Vati, who look disheveled yet happy, and is no longer nervous. She runs towards her mother, the wind rushing by her ears, and it is as though she has never ran faster, nor her feet ever lighter, in her entire life. The picky Little Black Sheep is finally happy and obediently performs the last trick at her father's instructions, even contributing an impromptu forward somersault. The onlookers cheer and applaud, as Adele continues to run towards the finish line. This is a special day. Whether she wins first prize or not doesn't seem to matter so much anymore. She runs into the arms of her parents with a big smile on her face, enjoying a rare family holiday. 'Baa!' Finding itself excluded from the embrace, the Little Black Sheep begins to bleat loudly in protest.
