Rolling Wheels Issue 752 Two truck drivers enter a bar. One says: 'I had some right terrible luck today. Ran into bandits again, and gave the steering wheel a good jerk to shake 'em off, but they still managed to scratch my truck.' The other says: 'Don't come crying to me just 'cause they nicked your paint. They ruined both my bumpers!' 'Both of 'em?' the first driver asks. 'Some sorta pincer attack?' 'You think I'd still be here talking if they did?' The other driver ties her hair back up again. 'They went and bloody intercepted my truck from the front.' 'Then how'd they ruin both bumpers?' 'The stuff I got for self-defense was getting fixed up at the shop, so I had to tear off my back bumper and give them a few good whacks with it. Good thing the folks at the police station gave me some dosh as a reward for handing them in, or else I'd be skint!' 'Who the hell approved such a crappy joke for publication?!' A man with black eyes spits on the ground as he turns the page. 'Stop reading that shitty rag already and get back to work.' One of his colleagues knocks the magazine out of his hands with a steel pipe and thrusts some barbed wire at him. 'You know the drill, lay it out 500 meters ahead.' The man throws a filthy towel over his head, picks up the wire and follows the road. 'Dammit, why am I only allowed to set up the first trap? Even if we do pop some tires and snag a car, I'd still only get the smallest share. And if the tires don't pop and the car gets away, I'm always the one who gets a beating!' The man's hands never stop even as he shouts his sorrows, and soon, the road is covered in crude but effective spike strips. Out in the distance, a cloud of dust is kicked up. A car's coming. The man with blackened eye sockets looks at the oncoming vehicle, dumbfounded. The truck's a real battered one. Even the front bumper's barely hanging on by a thread. The metaphorical thread, in this case, is a giant spanner, bigger than any he's seen before. The man starts running back towards his gang, yelling as he goes: 'It's her! It's bloody her again! 'That bloody sheila's back to make some more money!'
